Beach Volleyball's McHugh Earns Spot on Preseason All-Conference Team

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane beach volleyball's junior Kaylie McHugh was named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Preseason All-Conference Team, the CCSA announced on Wednesday.
"Kaylie has worked extraordinarily hard to become the player she is today," head coach Wayne Holly said. "She's never satisfied and is remarkably driven to improve everyday. I'm happy to see her recognized by our conference coaches as one of the premier players in the game today and I'm extraordinarily proud of her."
McHugh, a preseason all-conference selection for the first time last season, also earned All-Conference Team honors in both her freshman and sophomore years with the Green Wave. Winning the AVCA Top Flight Award and earning AVCA Collegiate Beach All-American honors in the 2018 season, McHugh posted a 30-7 record from the No. 1 spot to tie the program record for most wins in a season.
Notching 11 wins against ranked opponents last season on the sand, McHugh is expected to bring that same level of talent heading into her third season with the team.
CCSA also named junior Tarin Mergener to the 2019 Preseason Watch List.
Mergener posted a 22-15 record during her sophomore year with the Green Wave, going 15-9 from the No. 2 spot. Earning four wins against ranked teams in 2018, Mergener also recorded 16 sweeps in her second year with the team and ended the regular season with a six-game winning streak.
McHugh joins four others from Florida State, two from LSU, a pair from FIU and one player from Georgia State and South Carolina on the 2019 Preseason All-Conference Team.
Tulane is set to open its season this weekend, competing in the Home2 Suites Hilton-Tallahassee State Capitol Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Florida State. The Green Wave will start the weekend off with a matchup against host FSU, followed by matches against Tampa, Cal Poly and LSU.
