Feb 3, 2019 | Women's Tennis
The Green Wave (4-2) fell behind early when the Rebels (1-2) scored two doubles wins on courts one and three, respectively, to clinch the first point of the match.
Ole Miss used its momentum heading into singles when the Rebels closed out No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles in straight sets to clinch the win.
Sophomore Daniela La Fuente put the Green Wave on the scoreboard from the No. 3 spot in the lineup with a win over 114th-ranked Anna Vrbenska. Despite dropping the first set, 6-1, La Fuente cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second to force a deciding frame. Vrbenska held a 3-2 advantage, but was could not continue due to an injury, giving La Fuente the win.
The Rebels added another point with a straight-set win at the No. 2 position, and despite a 6-2, 5-3 advantage at No. 6, sophomore Alex Alegre won three games in a row to split sets and win the second set, 7-5.
Alegre continued her roll into a third-set tiebreaker where she earned a 10-5 victory to notch the Wave's second and final point of the day.
