
Beach Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Mardi Gras Challenge at Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi – The Tulane beach volleyball team (5-6, 2-4 CCSA) went 2-0 in the Mardi Gras Challenge on Tuesday, defeating Southern Mississippi 4-1 in both matches in the midweek matchup.
Juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella continued with their winning behavior in the No. 1 position, defeating Kylie Grandy and Lindsey Legg in consecutive two-set matches on the sand.
Junior Tarin Mergener and freshman Haley Gibson also went 2-0 against the Golden Eagles, taking down Piper Matsumoto and Kellie Garraway in a three-set battle in the first match before earning a two-set victory in the second on court three.
Sophomore Morgan Esters and freshman Kilani Daane were the third pair to win both matches on Tuesday, beating out Jessica Austin and Lindsey Smith from the No. 5 spot.
Earning a come-from-behind win in the first match, sophomores Lauren Orlich and Rio Frohoff defeated Abbey Wilson and Cyan Blackdeer on court two with 16-21, 21-18 and 17-15 scores in the first match.
Sophomore Gabriella Becerra and freshman Ellie Leitko came back strong after falling in the first match, beating Olivia Hepworth and Breleigh in straight sets on court four.
The Green Wave are back in action this weekend, heading to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the March to May on Friday and Saturday.
