NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane beach volleyball team (5-6, 2-4 CCSA) heads back on the road this weekend, traveling to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in The March to May on Friday and Saturday.
The Green Wave are set to start the weekend tournament with matchups against University of Alabama at Birmingham, Southern Mississippi and University of New Orleans on Friday at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Tulane will then compete against No. 18 Georgia State on Saturday at 9 a.m. before concluding the weekend action with a 4 p.m. match against Houston Baptist.
Tulane defeated Southern Miss in consecutive matches in the team's last competition on the sand, earning two 4-1 victories in the Golden Eagles' first ever home event.
The Green Wave's No. 1 pair in juniors Kaylie McHugh and Eva Torruella extended their winning streak to six matches in the midweek conference matchup, now owning an 8-3 dual record this season.
Tulane's first opponent this weekend, UAB, has earned a 4-4 record to start the 2019 season, winning its first four matches at home before falling to four Top-20 teams the following weekend in the FAU Invitational. The Green Wave own an 11-4 career record against the Blazers, beating them 4-1 in their last meeting in March 2018.
Southern Miss is now 2-7 in the team's inaugural season on the sand, taking down Nicholls State and Huntingdon at the Beach Invitational at UNO for its sole pair of wins.
UNO is just getting its season started, owning a 3-1 record after hosting the New Orleans Invitational last weekend. The Green Wave have gone 8-0 in their career over the Privateers, winning 4-1 in their most recent matchup in the 2018 Green Wave Invitational.
Tulane has already faced HBU and Georgia State in the 2019 season, defeating the Huskies in a 3-2 match at home before falling to the No. 16 Panthers, 2-3, last weekend in the Horned Frog Challenge. The Wave holds a 7-0 overall record against HBU and a 2-6 career record against Georgia State.
