Beach Volleyball Readies for Palmetto Invitational, Final Slate Before CCSA Championship
Apr 11, 2019 | Women's Beach Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane beach volleyball team (15-12, 6-9 CCSA) is headed to South Carolina this weekend for the team's final tournament of the regular season, competing on Friday and Saturday in the Palmetto Invitational.
"We have a great opportunity in front of us, with three conference opponents on the schedule, to earn more conference wins and improve our seed for the CCSA tournament," head coach Wayne Holly said.
The Green Wave will face two conference opponents on day one, in UNC Wilmington and No. 11 South Carolina, at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., before matching up against CCSA foe College of Charleston and Missouri State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m, respectively.
Tulane played well in the team's last time out in the FIU Surf 'N Turf, taking down No. 20 TCU in a 3-2 battle while falling just short of beating No. 15 Florida Atlantic in a competitive, 2-3 match.
Owning a 4-0 career record against their first opponent of the weekend, the Green Wave defeated UNC Wilmington with a 4-1 score in their most recent matchup in the 2017 Palmetto Invitational. The Seahawks are 7-10 heading into Friday's dual, coming off of a four-match losing streak after falling to Tampa, No. 19 Georgia State, Arizona State and UAB in the last weekend of March.
Tulane has gone 2-6 in its career against South Carolina, with the team's last win over the Gamecocks coming on day two of the 2017 CCSA Conference Championship. South Carolina heads into it's weekend of home action with a 15-8 mark, defeating three ranked opponents this season in No. 4 LSU, No. 2 USC and No. 18 Georgia State.
The Green Wave own an even 5-5 record against the Cougars, most recently taking down CofC with a 4-1 score in this same trip last season. Earning its sole pair of losses in the team's last competition against No. 14 Arizona State and No. 19 Georgia State, Charleston makes its way to Columbia with an impressive 14-2 record.
Defeating its final weekend opponent earlier this season with a tight 3-2 score, Tulane looks to remain undefeated against Missouri State on Saturday while posting a current 2-0 record against the team. The Bears head to the Palmetto Invitational on a six-match winning streak, owning an 11-8 record on the sand in 2019.
