May 2, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – After a vote by the league's head coaches, Tulane's Ivone Alvaro has been named to the 2019 All-American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Team an announcement Wednesday afternoon.
Alvaro becomes the first Green Wave player to earn women's tennis all-conference honors from The American multiple times, as she was recognized as a freshman in 2017 while also being named Co-Freshman of the Year.
"Ivone is very deserving of this recognition because she has gone above and beyond for this program," head coach Maria Brito said. "She invested in her tennis and her work ethic earned her this honor. We're thankful for the standard she has set for the future of our program."
A native of Albufeira, Portugal, Alvaro compiled a 19-14 overall singles record in 2018-19, including a 12-5 mark during the spring season. She was dominant at the No. 3 spot in the lineup where she posted a 10-1 ledger and finished the year with nine-straight wins.
In doubles, Alvaro teamed with Elena Muller as they posted an 18-5 overall record and a 16-4 mark at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. They held a national ranking in all but one poll, reaching as high as No. 25 in early March after beginning the spring with 10 consecutive victories and in 15 of their first 16 matches.
