Alvaro Nets All-LSWA Women's Tennis Recognition
May 28, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Following an impressive 2018-19 season, Tulane women's tennis standout Ivone Alvaro was selected to the 2019 All-Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Second Team, according to an announcement by the organization Friday.
The postseason honor is Alvaro's second of the year, as she received All-American Athletic Conference Team honors for the second time in her career. The All-LSWA honor is also her second after garnering a first team accolade in 2017.
A native of Albufeira, Portugal, Alvaro compiled a 19-14 overall singles record in 2018-19, including a 12-5 mark during the spring season. She was dominant at the No. 3 spot in the lineup where she posted a 10-1 ledger and finished the year with nine-straight wins.
In doubles, Alvaro teamed with Elena Muller as they posted an 18-5 overall record and a 16-4 mark at the No. 1 spot in dual matches. They held a national ranking in all but one poll, reaching as high as No. 25 in early March after beginning the spring with 10 consecutive victories and in 15 of their first 16 matches.
