Women's Basketball Reveals 2019-20 Non-Conference Schedule
Aug 7, 2019 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's basketball team announced another loaded non-conference schedule for the 2019-20 season on Wednesday which includes five teams from Power Six conferences all before the New Year.
The Green Wave will also make two big road trips, heading up to the Pacific Northwest for a game at Washington in early November followed by a tropical Thanksgiving in San Juan, Puerto Rico for two games in the Puerto Rico Classic.
Fans will get their first chance to see the 2019-20 Green Wave on October 30 when Tulane hosts Loyola-New Orleans for the teams' annual exhibition.
The regular season begins six nights later when Jackson State comes to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on November 5. After that, Tulane will travel to Seattle for a matchup against Washington on November 10. The teams met last year in New Orleans with the Green Wave pulling off a 63-51 win.
Back home in New Orleans, Tulane will face Middle Tennessee State for the third time in four seasons on November 14. The teams met in 2017 and 2016 with each team winning on its home court. The Blue Raiders had a 23-11 record last year and went to the Women's NIT.
Tulane will follow that with a big rivalry contest at home against LSU. Tulane claimed a win last year at the Maravich Center and will be looking for its second straight win in the series on November 17.
Southland Conference power Central Arkansas is headed to New Orleans after that, playing the Green Wave at Fogelman in Devlin on November 22 at noon. The Sugar Bears have been to the national postseason five times this decade including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017.
After UCA, Alabama will come to New Orleans on November 24, marking the Crimson Tide's fourth game in the last five seasons against Tulane. The Green Wave defeated Alabama 53-52 in the 2016 Women's NIT.
With November all but over, it's off to the Caribbean for the Green Wave. Tulane will compete in the Puerto Rico Classic, November 28-29, squaring off with Boston College and Charlotte in San Juan. Boston College and Tulane have met just once previously with the Green Wave winning by 19 in New Orleans in 2002. Charlotte reached the Women's NIT first round last season and will be facing Tulane for the first time since 2014 when the schools were members of Conference USA for one season.
Back on the mainland, Tulane will have a quick trip to Hattiesburg for a date with Southern Miss on December 4. Tulane defeated the Golden Eagles last season in New Orleans before Southern Miss went on to reach the second round of the Women's Basketball Invitational in the postseason.
Sun Belt Conference Tournament finalist South Alabama comes next for Tulane at home on December 7. The teams faced off in an exhibition before the 2017-18 season, but the teams have not played each other during the regular season since 2010. The Green Wave have won four straight over the Jaguars, who reached the second round of the WNIT last year.
After two weeks off for final exams, the 24th annual Tulane Classic tips off at Fogelman in Devlin. Held in a non-tournament format this season, Tulane will face Texas Southern on December 20 and Colorado on December 21. The fourth team in the field will be UAB. Colorado will play UAB on December 20, and UAB will face Texas Southern on December 21.
In 2018-19, the Green Wave opened the year with a win over Texas Southern. The Green Wave and Colorado have only played each other once, with the Buffaloes earning a win in the 1996 NCAA Tournament.
Finally, Tulane wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule at home on December 30 against Georgia Southern. This will be the third all-time meeting between the two teams, and Tulane will be seeking its first win. The teams have not met since 1991.
The 2020 conference schedule will be announced later in the summer. Tulane will play 16 games against American Athletic Conference foes.
