Women's Tennis Nearly Perfect on Day One at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Tulane women's tennis defeated Memphis in doubles and took five singles matches from host Samford on the first day of the Samford Invitational.
Playing in a hidden dual format, the Green Wave got the day started with three doubles matches against American Athletic Conference foe Memphis, as the freshman duo of Mackenzie Clark and Lahari Yelamanchili cruised to a 6-2 victory over Hannah Davis and Katherine Cao, before Daniela La Fuente and Lauren Gish outlasted Alisha Reayer and Josephine Cao, 7-5.
Tulane got an even more dominant effort in singles play against Samford, claiming five of the seven matchups, including three in straight sets. Laura Fabrizi needed three sets to defeat Cindy Oest, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, in a comeback effort, while Gish collected a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win of her own in her Green Wave debut.
Adelaide Lavery defeated Natalia De Ugarte, 6-4, 6-4 and Christina Sisti took down Holly Horsfall, 6-4, 6-2, while Clark eased her way to a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Arianna Beltrame.
Action continues Saturday with one more round of doubles and singles, respectively.
