TULANE HEADS TO HOUSTON FOR PRIMETIME MATCHUP ON ESPN
- The Green Wave travel to Houston, Texas, on Thursday night for a nationally-televised matchup on ESPN against the Cougars for their third road game of the season. The game is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
- Tulane's matchup with Houston marks the third straight year that the Green Wave have faced the Cougars on ESPN's Thursday Night Football. The Green Wave's matchup with Houston back in 2018, marked the first time in program history in which Tulane had played on ESPN's Thursday night platform.
- In the 2019 matchup, Tulane rallied back from 21 points down to pick up a thrilling 38-31 win over Houston in the closing moments of the fourth quarter. Â
- The Green Wave will faceoff against Houston for the 25th time. The Cougars own a 17-7 all-time series lead against Tulane.
- Tulane will be in search of back-to-back wins over Houston for the first time since the 2000 and 2002 seasons. The Green Wave have not won at Houston since 2002.
FIRST AND 10
1. Tulane has not won its first three road games to start a season since 1998.
2. Prior to the 1998 campaign, Tulane has only opened the season by winning each of its first three road games once (1975) since 1950.
3. The Green Wave will turn to true freshman Michael Pratt at quarterback. Pratt made his first collegiate appearance in the first half against Southern Miss. He would go on to finish the game with 142 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also ran for a score.Â
4. Tulane has 19 players on its 2020 roster that are from the state of Texas which include: Corey Dauphine, Josh Coltrin, Jaylon Monroe, Amare Jones, Josh Holl, Jaetavian Toles, Kevaris Hall, Logan Ammons, Larry Brooks, Keitha Jones Jr., Sincere Haynesworth, Carlos Hatcher, Jackson Fort, Tyrick James, Dane Ledford, Sorrell Brown, Keshon Williams, Reggie Brown, Brandon Brown.
5. Tulane's defensive line has made life difficult for opposing offenses, averaging just over 10 tackles for loss per game which ranks No. 3 nationally among FBS teams.
6. Redshirt sophomore running back Cameron Carroll has rushed for no less than two touchdowns in every game this season. Against Southern Miss, Carroll scored four touchdowns. Carroll leads the nation with eight touchdowns.Â
7. Tulane's special teams' unit ranks as one of the best in The American. The Green Wave rank second in the league in kick return average (33.3), rank third in punt return average (9.5) and rank third in net punting (39.1).
8. Tulane has rushed for at least 100 yards in 56 consecutive games dating back to the end of the 2015 season.Â
9. The Green Wave enter their matchup with Houston having rushed for over 250 yards in nine of their last 18 games (337 vs. UL-Lafayette -2018, 350 vs. FIU - 2019, 298 vs. Missouri State - 2019, 325 vs. Houston - 2019, 324 vs. Army - 2019, 311 vs. UConn - 2019 and 290 vs. Tulsa - 2019, 265 vs. Navy - 2020 and 427 vs. Southern Miss). The Green Wave have also surpassed 200 yards rushing in 12 of their last 16 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
10. Defensive linemen Patrick Johnson (ninth) and Cameron Sample (17th) both rank in the nation's Top 25 in sacks per game. Both players were recognized in the preseason as Top 250 prospects by the Reese's Senior Bowl.
SCOUTING HOUSTON
- Houston's matchup with Tulane will mark its first game of the 2020 season.Â
- The Cougars return 19 full or part-time starters for the 2020 campaign.Â
- In addition to the returning starters, Houston returns 70.3 percent of its 2019 rushing yards, 72.8 percent of its passing yards, 92.7 percent of its receiving yards and 80.4 percent of its scoring.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Houston returns seven players with double-digit career starts in 2020: S Deontay Anderson (24), DL Payton Turner (23), LB Grant Stuard (13), LB Donavan Mutin (12), CB Damarion Wiliams (12), S Gleson Sprewell (11) and S Gervarrius Owens (11).
- Since 2013, Houston ranks second in the state of Texas among FBS schools with 57 wins. The Cougars are one win behind Baylor and tied with Texas A&M for second place.Â
- Houston leads the state of Texas FBS schools with 10 seasons of at least eight wins since 2006. TCU is second in that span with nine.
