Nov 24, 2020 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's tennis head coach Maria Brito announced the addition of Lily Walther as the second member of the Green Wave's 2021 recruiting class.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Lily to our 2021 class," Brito said. "She is very driven, passionate and hungry in the classroom and on the court which makes her a perfect fit for our team!"
Walther joins five-star recruit Brooke Theis from Chicago, Ill., as the second Green Wave newcomer who will arrive on campus during the fall of 2021.
A four-star recruit according to the Tennis Recruiting Network, Walther lettered four years at John Burroughs School where she led the team to three consecutive state titles under head coach Lindsay Carlile from 2018-20. She was the state's singles champion in 2019 and 2020, adding to her first crown in 2017 in doubles as part of Burroughs' runner-up finish in the state tournament.
Atop her long list of accolades, Walther distinguished herself on the junior circuit where she was honored as the 2020 USTA St. Louis District Player of the Year. She also claimed the 2020 ITA Summer Circuit title at Plaza Tennis Center. In 2018, Walther received the USTA St. Louis District and Missouri Valley Sportsmanship Award.
Walther was chosen as a St. Louis Dispatch All-Metro First Team selection each year from 2017-20. In 2019, the Dispatch recognized her as the Player of the Year before tabbing Walther as a selection to the publication's All-Decade First Team.
