CHAMPIONSHIPS CENTRAL
HOUSTON - The Tulane University women's swimming and diving team begins competition in the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championships Wednesday morning inside the CRWC Natatorium at the University of Houston.
A total of 42 event champions will be crowned during the four-day meet. Preliminary events will begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
Tulane will look to improve upon its fourth-place finish at the 2019 league championships. The Green Wave's fourth-place finish a year ago is tied for the second highest placement in school history.
Tulane enters the conference championships following a home meet against SMU on January 25 where it came up just short, falling 153-147. Despite the loss, Tulane captured victories in eight events. Junior Kate McDonald led the way for the Green Wave as she won three races, bringing her season total to 14 victories.
The Green Wave will look to senior Olivia Johnson for a re-peat performance from the 2019 AAC Championships where she made three trips to the podium last year, winning one silver and two gold medals. This performance marked the first time a Tulane swimmer won two gold medals at the AAC Championships.
Freshman Lilly Byrne is heading into her first AAC Championships after swimming a strong meet against SMU where she claimed two victories in the 200 freestyle (1:52.48) and 500 freestyle (4:57.99) events.
The meet also will serve as a bit of a homecoming for junior swimmer and Houston native Ellie Vincent. Last year at the conference championships, Vincent posted her career best 200 breaststroke championship, (2:22.50).
