HARTFORD, Conn. – The Tulane University women's basketball team fell at UConn, 74-31, in the XL Center tonight.

Tulane (12-14, 7-6) registered 41 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. UConn (22-3, 12-0) had 44 rebounds, 17 assists and 14 steals. Junior Krystal Freeman and freshman Irina Parau led the Green Wave with seven points apiece. Sophomore Mia Heide grabbed a team-high six rebounds and junior Arsula Clark dished out four assists.

"You can't define yourself by a game like this," Green Wave head coach Lisa Stockton said. "For us, all of our other games have been really close. We've been in every game and we've had an opportunity to win every game. I think that's where you have to focus. We've got to regroup and head to the next game."

The Wave opened the game 3-3 from behind the arc and were tied at nine with UConn with five minutes left in first quarter. After trading buckets after the media timeout, the Huskies used an 8-0 run to take the lead. Parau added a baseline jumper to make the Huskies' lead 19-13 going into the second quarter.

UConn opened the second quarter on an 18-2 run to stretch its lead 37-15. Freeman ended the run with a layup with two minutes left in the first half. The Huskies led 44-21 at halftime. The Green Wave trailed 59-26 after the third quarter.

Megan Walker and Anna Makurat led UConn with 18 points each. Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies.

Up next, the Green Wave will travel to take on Cincinnati on Sunday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT.
