NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's tennis head coach Maria Brito received her third National Letter of Intent for the program's 2020 signing class from Charlotte Russell
Russell joins Cora Barber and Kristen Borland as a trio that will begin their careers with the Green Wave as freshmen in the fall.
"We are thrilled to welcome Charlie to our team," Brito said. "She is a great team player that is determined and very passionate about developing her game. Charlie will make an immediate impact on our team both on and off the court. We are going to be a young team with a lot of new faces, but this group of girls has a lot of potential to do great things. We are very excited to get things rolling this coming year."
A native of Cheltenham, England, Russell is a three-time national champion in her home country, winning a pair of singles titles at the U18 and U16 levels, while also claiming the U18 doubles crown. She has also been playing for her county, Gloucestershire, since her U10 days, leading the club to numerous titles.
On the ITF junior circuit, Russell claimed her first singles championship at the Grade 5 level in Bahrain in 2018. She has also been a part of two doubles titles, beginning with a win in the Grade 4 in Cyprus in June 2019, followed by a Grade 5 victory in Dublin, Ireland one month later.
Russell comes from strong family bloodlines in the tennis world, as her father, Peter, was formerly a world-ranked player in Great Britain in the 1980's. Her mother, Melissa, lettered at the University of Mississippi.
