Brito Adds Cora Barber to Women’s Tennis' 2020 Signing Class
Apr 7, 2020 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's tennis head coach Maria Brito received her second National Letter of Intent for the program's 2020 signing class from Cora Barber.
Barber joins Kristen Borland, who submitted her NLI in early March, as the two will begin their careers with the Green Wave as freshmen in the fall.
"We are so excited to have Cora join the Tulane family," Brito said. "Not only will she bring a wealth of contributions on the court, but also in the classroom with her academic discipline. She wanted a great academic school with a tennis program where she can excel and develop. Cora will join our efforts of laying the foundation and helping build our program to where we want it to be."
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Barber attended IMG Academy in Florida, and possesses a wealth of experience playing on the ITF junior tour as well as her home country. She recently established her highest ITF junior ranking at 604 in March 2020. Barber's highest ranking in Germany was 199 and her current U18 ranking places her No. 42 in the country.
In November, Barber claimed her first ITF juniors title in Curaçao, following a semifinal appearance in Bayamon and a quarterfinal showing in El Salvador earlier in the year. She was also the 2019 U18 German state champion in singles. In doubles, she won at ITF events in Bayamon in 2018 and in Santo Domingo in 2017, before reaching the finals in 2019 both Curaçao and El Salvador, respectively.
Among her top results earlier in her career, Barber placed third in singles at the U12 German National Championships.
