May 18, 2020 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Senior Ewan Moore and junior Hamish Stewart earned two of the top ITA regional individual awards, as the Tulane men's tennis team also claimed the region's Team Community Service Award for the 2019-20 season.
Moore was named ITA Southern Region Senior Player of the Year, an award honoring the senior student-athlete who had the best year among all student-athletes in his class. Stewart was tabbed ITA Southern Region Player to Watch, which is given to a returning student-athlete who is expected to have an outstanding collegiate season next year.
As a team, Tulane received the ITA Southern Region Team Community Service Award, which honors the team that gives back to their campus and their community through tennis and non-tennis pathways. The Green Wave compiled over 100 hours of service between time spent at The Green Project, The Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and numerous visits to local elementary schools serving as English and reading tutors for students.
Stewart enjoyed a breakout season where he posted a 16-7 overall singles record, including a 9-2 mark at No. 2 singles during the spring. He was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week one time and was ranked No. 50 in the final ITA national singles rankings in spring. In doubles, the Glasgow, Scotland native went 8-6, including a 3-0 mark at the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Stewart was listed No. 59 in the final fall doubles rankings with Akos Kotorman.
Stewart also led 47th-ranked Tulane in total singles wins (16) and spring singles wins, including six over nationally-ranked singles opponents. He defeated his highest-ranked opponent, No. 18 Alex Rostaert of 11th-ranked Stanford in straight sets on Jan. 25 and topped the nation's No. 27 doubles tandem of Broska/Ocana of 20th-ranked Mississippi State at the No. 1 spot to clinch the doubles point in the upset road win.
Moore went 14-11 overall in singles and 5-5 during the spring at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. He reached as high as No. 32 in the ITA national singles rankings and finished the season No. 72 in the poll while earning six wins over nationally-ranked singles opponents. Moore defeated the nation's No. 6 player Christian Sigsgaard of third-ranked Texas on March 6.
