SENIOR DAY: Tulane Honors Beach Volleyball's Eva Torruella
May 2, 2020 | Women's Beach Volleyball
EDITOR'S NOTE: Over the next few months, TulaneGreenWave.com will honor the 35 seniors that had their respective collegiate careers cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic through this SENIOR DAY series. We hope you the fans enjoy this series and remember the seniors from the 2020 graduating class.
Joining the Green Wave roster as a transfer in the fall of 2018, Eva Torruella made the most of her two seasons on the sand in New Orleans. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native was selected to the CCSA All-Conference Team in 2019 after posting a 20-10 record from the No. 1 spot, finishing the season ranked the 20th best pair in the nation alongside Kaylie McHugh. Torruella defeated six ranked opponents in her first year Uptown, sweeping her opponent on 16 occasions while putting together a 10-match winning streak. In a 2020 season that was cut short, Torruella went 4-4 from the No. 1 position and 7-4 from the No. 2 position, totaling six sweeps.
Today, we honor Torruella in our SENIOR DAY web series.
Q AND A WITH EVA TORRUELLA
What made you want to come to Tulane?
"I initially came to Tulane because I had always loved New Orleans. I've always thought it had a very similar spirit to home (Puerto Rico). I made a bold decision to transfer to Tulane but it was also the right decision. When I’m at Tulane, I feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be."
What is your favorite memory from your time at Tulane?
"My favorite memory at Tulane would have to be beating TCU at the Miami tournament in 2019. My partner Kaylie McHugh and I were the deciding match. Once the ball had dropped and we won the game, the whole team went rushing to hug. We had been through several ups and downs throughout the season but after that win, the team felt more united than ever."
What's next?
"I will be using my extra year of eligibility next year. I plan to get a master's degree in Health and Wellness Management. I can’t wait to get out on the court and wear my Tulane jersey one more time."
