TULANE TO OPEN ITS 127TH SEASON AT SOUTH ALABAMA
- The Green Wave open the 2020 season at South Alabama on Saturday night in primetime, as they travel to Mobile, Alabama to take on the Jaguars. The game will be aired live on ESPN2 and kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
- The Green Wave's trip to South Alabama will mark the first time since 2014 that Tulane has opened a season on the road (Aug. 28 - at Tulsa).
- Tulane will take on South Alabama for just the second time in program history.Â
- The first meeting between the two teams came back on Sept. 7, 2013. The Green Wave dropped a 41-39 decision at the Superdome.Â
- Tulane opens the 2020 season in the hopes of building off its Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl win over Southern Miss.Â
- The Green Wave also will be shooting for a winning season for the third consecutive season. Tulane has not posted three straight winning seasons since the 1979, 1980 and 1981 campaigns.Â

1. The Green Wave will look to capture their fourth season-opening win in the last five years.Â
2. Tulane has not won its road opener since 2016. The Green Wave defeated Massachusetts 31-24.Â
3. The Green Wave are 6-4 in their last 10 season openers.Â
4. Tulane owns a 66-58-2 all-time record in season openers.
5. Tulane returns 14 starters from last year's squad, including seven on defense.Â
6. The Green Wave was picked to finish sixth in the 2020 American Athletic Conference preseason poll.Â
7. Five Green Wave student-athletes made their way to Tulane from the state of Alabama. Darius Hodges (Montgomery), Shi'Keem Laister (Clanton), Willie Langham (Bessemer), Alfred Thomas (Montgomery) and KJ Vault (Hoover) will all return to their home state this weekend. Tulane defensive coordinator Jack Curtis (Birmingham) and offensive line coach Cody Kennedy (Florence) also hail from Alabama.
8. Tulane has rushed for at least 100 yards in 53 consecutive games dating back to the end of the 2015 season.Â

The Green Wave enters their matchup with South Alabama having rushed for over 250 yards in seven of their last 15 games (337 vs. UL-Lafayette -2018, 350 vs. FIU, 298 vs. Missouri State, 325 vs. Houston, 324 vs. Army, 311 vs. UConn and 290 vs. Tulsa). The Green Wave have also surpassed 200 yards rushing in nine of their 13 games this season.
10. Tulane's defensive unit has held eight of its 13 opponents under its season average in total yards (FIU, Auburn, Missouri State, Army, UConn, Tulsa, UCF and SMU).
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMAÂ
- South Alabama welcomes Tulane for the first game ever at Hancock Whitney Stadium.Â
- The Jaguars opened the 2020 season with a convincing 32-21 win over Southern Miss on Sept. 3 on the road.Â
- South Alabama outgained the Golden Eagles 188-30 in the opening quarter, with the Jaguars defense limiting Southern Miss to minus-10 yards on the ground in the period.
- The Jaguars opened the season with a victory for the first time since 2016, when they defeated Mississippi State 21-20 in Starkville — that game also took place on Sept. 3.
- It was the first time since the program's inception in 2009 that the Jags did not have to punt once in a contest.
- Four of USA's six scoring drives covered 75 or more yards.
- Steve Campbell begins his third season as the Jaguars head coach.
- USA is coming off a 2-10 2019 campaign.Â
