Women's Tennis Hosts Alcorn State, Southern to Begin 2021 Campaign

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis opens serve on its 2021 spring season on Thursday, January 21 with a home doubleheader against Alcorn State. The first match is scheduled for a noon start at the City Park Tennis Center followed by the second at 3:30 p.m.
The Green Wave finish their first week of action Saturday by hosting Southern University at noon.
SCOUTING ALCORN STATE
The Braves enter Thursday's match after posting a 1-15 overall record during the 2020 spring campaign. They return four letterwinners from last season.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN
The Jaguars will compete in their first match of the season Saturday after posting a 2-8 overall record during the 2020 season. It will be Southern's fifth consecutive spring in which it's made the trip to New Orleans, as Tulane has earned four straight 4-0 victories.
IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Green Wave sophomore Mackenzie Clark is ranked No. 108 in the ITA's national singles rankings to begin the season. In doubles, Clark and 2020 ITA All-American Mary Caroline Meredith comprise the nation's No. 54 duo.
THE RETURNERS
Tulane brings back three starters from the 2020 roster including junior Adelaide Lavery, Clark and sophomore Lahari Yelamanchili. Those three account for more than half (36) of Tulane's 67 singles wins last season.
FRESH FACES
The Green Wave welcomes four newcomers including graduate transfer and 2020 All-American Mary Caroline Meredith who competed at Wake Forest University the last three seasons. She is joined by three freshmen: Cora Barber, Kristen Borland and Charlotte Russell.
BRITO'S BUILD CONTINUES
Head coach Maria Brito enters her fourth season leading the program along with assistant coach Keri Wong. Brito has guided the Green Wave to 31 wins in her first three seasons, including an 8-7 mark during the abbreviated 2020 spring season.
