Oct 31, 2021 | Women's Bowling
CORAM, N.Y. – The Tulane University women's bowling team placed third at the 2021 Dez Strong Classic. The three-day tournament was held at Coram Country Lanes and Adelphi University served as the championship host.
The Green Wave were seeded second in the championship bracket, but dropped head-to-head matchups with Vanderbilt (3-4, First Round) and Youngstown State (0-4, Second Round). Tulane finished the championship round on a high note, as it defeated Long Island University 4-2 to take third.
"I'm really pleased with the teams' progress in this tournament, especially with the impressive 5-0 day on Saturday," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "We went into day three in contention to win and although we fell a little short we gave Vanderbilt a really good run. We continue to grow and work together as a team and each tournament we are making positive strides forward."
Madison McCall finished the tournament with the highest scoring average at 226.80. Teammate Morgan Gitlitz was not far behind, averaging a total of 220.60, which ranked third overall. Both McCall and Gitlitz were both named to the All-Tournament team.
Tulane returns to action on Nov. 12-14, as it travels to the Sonic Boom Tournament in Jackson, Mississippi.
