HOUSTON – The Tulane swimming & diving team completed day one of the Phill Hansel Invitational Thursday at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.
Â
The meet is cumulative, being scored over the three-day invitational.
Â
The Green Wave currently sit in sixth place out of nine teams with a score of 182. Leading the meet is San Diego State University with 457 points.
"These women did a great job competing today" head coach Leah Stancil said. "Both swimmers and divers made season bests and courageously competed today. Lilly Byrne accomplished an NCAA B cut in the 500 free,  while Kate Amar and Danielle Titus both had lifetime best times in the 200IM. Technically, we improved on our turns and our finishes while our race strategies were executed very well. Tomorrow is a new day, we are expected to refocus and have another successful day."

500-yard Freestyle was the first preliminary event of the day. Junior Lily Byrne came out with the top time (4:48.37) sealing her spot in the finals which she would go on to win with a time of 4:47.05. Senior Noa Heron wasn't far behind placing third in the finals with a time of 4:50.71.
Â
Tulane's 200-yard freestyle relay team would place eight in their finals with Reese Dunkenberger swimming the first leg, followed by Eleanor McMeen, Iza Pelka and Riley Hendrix as the anchor.

In diving, sophomore Paige McKenize placed 12th in the preliminaries with a score of 242.00. In the finals McKenzie placed eighth with a score of 260.50.
Â
The 400-medley relay was the final event of the night. For the Green Wave Danielle Titus, Chrisiana Williams, Sam Kew and Noa Heron made up the Tulane "A" team. They would finish in fifth place with a time of 3:43.96.
