Swimming and Diving Completes Second Day of Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON – The Tulane swimming & diving team completed day two of the Phill Hansel Invitational Thursday at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.

Tulane currently sits in sixth place out of eight teams with a score of 398.5 through 12 events. Leading the meet is San Diego State University with 887 points.

The women of the Green Wave put themselves in great positions for the evening finals after competing hard in the morning preliminaries.

Sophomore Danielle Titus had the only victory of the night for Tulane. In her fourth straight meet of the season, she placed first in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 54.38 was also a season best for her.

Junior Lilly Byrne had another great day in the pool. Finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.43, a season best. Iza Pelka placed 10th with a time of 1:49.51 with Noa Heron right behind her in 11th with a time of 1:49.62.

The 200-yard medley relay team got the action going for the Olive and Blue by placing seventh with a time of 1:43.66. Titus, Christiana Williams, Autumn Keats-O'Connor and anchor Pelka made up the relay team for Tulane.

In the 400 IM, Mya Drost-Parra place 13th, but came out with her best time of the season with 4:26.47.

Williams found herself in fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke. She would finish with a time of 1:02.12 a season best for her.

On the other end of the pool our divers competed in the 3 mtr diving finals. Katie Lipsey would finish best for the Green Wave with a score of 251.40, Gabby Hebert placed 18th with 249.10, Paige Mckenzie came in 19th with 241.45 and Anna Behrman 21st scoring 233.90.

Rounding out the night was the 800-yard freestyle relay. Byrne, Pelka, Sam Krew, and Heron would take silver with a time of 7:20.24.
The Green Wave are back in action tomorrow for the third day of the Phil Hansel Invitational.
