Volleyball Closes 2021 Season with a Win Over USF

NEW ORLEANS, La. – On a day when they honored their six seniors, Lexie Douglas, Kayla Dinkins, Taylor Henigsman, Yvettve Burcescu, Makala Heidelberg and Danyelle Williams postgame, the Tulane Green Wave volleyball team closed the 2021 schedule on Friday with a 3-1 win over USF 25-20, 27-25, 25-23, 25-21 inside Fogelman in Devlin.

After taking the opening set Tulane had to fend off a hungry USF team for a win in the final two to secure the victory. Tulane produced 49 kills on 45 assists, while having 74 digs and eight blocks as a group to defeat to Bulls.

Lexie Douglas led the team with 15 kills and hit .303 for the match, adding six digs and a service ace. Michelle Urquhart caught a double-double with 14 kills and 11 aces. Anna Davis had 12 kills and a season high six blocks.

Setter Taylor Henisgman backed the offense with 44 assists and also added seven digs.Â

The dark jersey was in the hands of sophomore Sophia Ervanian. The seasoned libero finished the day with 24 digs, one kill and a pair of aces.Â

There were nine ties and three lead changes during the opening set between the two sides, as both looked to shake off their rust after they both lost earlier in the week. The set went final 25-20 with the Green Wave producing 13 kills and four aces.

Set two went to the Bulls to even up the match at 1-1. Seven costly errors would be the demise of the Olive and Blue as they dropped the set 27-25.

Set three was back on Tulane's terms there was six ties and two lead changes. The Green Wave had 13 kills and two aces while cutting back on the errors significantly in order to take the set.Â

The final set was an offensive showing from the Uptown girls. 15 kills, a match high clip of .297 and a hand full of blocks was all they needed to finish off the Bulls and take the fourth set 25-21 ending the season with a win.
