Day Two Results
DALLAS — Four Tulane swimming and diving student-athletes earned individual conference medals on day two of the American Athletic Conference Championship, as the Green Wave head into the third and final day of AAC action with 410.5 total points.
"The team did a great job racing today," head coach Leah Stancil said. "I am so proud of their accomplishments so far. Not only did we have standout performances from Kate [McDonald]'s first place finish, Danielle [Titus]' team record breaking performance, and the podium finishes from Gianna [Spremullo] and Christiana [Williams] – we also saw career best times from other teammates, such as Hailey [Roberti] and Autumn [Keats-O'Connor]. We need to keep the momentum going. Tomorrow is a new day, and now we need to transition towards focusing on our last day of competition."
Freshman Danielle Titus became Tulane's all-time record holder on Friday, recording a time of 53.85 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. The first-year Green Wave earned silver status in the record-breaking race, bringing home her first career conference medal.
Also highlighting the day for Tulane was senior Kate McDonald, who brought home the gold in the 100-yard breaststroke, notching a time of 1:00.57. McDonald has now collected five American Athletic Conference Championship medals, though this marked her first first-place win.
A newcomer who shined on day two was freshman Christiana Williams, who finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:01.94. Williams' time is the third-best in the swimming and diving record books.
Freshman Gianna Spremullo also made a trip to the medal stand on Friday, finishing third in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:20.48. The first-year Green Wave's time is a career-best and the sixth best in program history.
Eleven Green Wave student-athletes recorded career-best times on Friday.
Houston leads the way after two days of competition, totaling 688 points. SMU is currently in second with 498.5 points while Cincinnati is in third with 472.
Tulane will be back in action on Saturday as the team readies for the final day of the AAC Championship, beginning with the swimming prelims at 10 a.m.
