
Tulane Golf Closes First Day of Lone Star Invitational in Sixth

HUMBLE, Texas – The Tulane University golf team closed the first day of the Lone Star Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston in sixth place.
The Green Wave shot 8-over 296 in the first round on Monday. Tulane finished the day with a total score of 599.
Freshman Daozeng "Cleo" Liu led the Olive and Blue with a season-best round of 1-under 71 in the first round. She birdied the par-4 first and fifth holes. Liu logged 15 pars in her first round. She posted a 5-over 77 in the second round for a 4-over 148 total score. She will head to Tuesday's final round tied for 20th.
Sophomores Carlota Palacios, Sandra Vazquez and Hanna Liu closed the first round with a score of 3-over 75. Palacios and Vazquez registered 15 pars each on the round, while Liu birdied the par-3 14th and 16th holes.
Vazquez opened the second round with three straight birdies on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes. She continued the success with birdies on the par-4 10th and par-5 13th holes. Vazquez finished the second round with a score of 2-over 74. She finished the day with a 5-over 149 total score to tie for 24th.
Palacios posted a 6-over 78 in the second round to finish the day with a 9-over 153 total score. She had two birdies on the day and will head to the final round tied for 28th.
Hanna Liu finished the day tied for 30th at 10-over 154. She had four birdies on the day.
Redshirt sophomore Hannah Rose Bruxvoort will head to the final round in 35th, while freshman Miriam Emmert closed the day in 38th. Bruxvoort posted a score of 2-over 74 in the second round. She had six birdies on the day.
No. 14 Baylor leads all teams with a score of 28-under 548, while SMU sits second at 2-under 574. Houston's Maria Jose Martinez led all golfers with an 11-under 133 on the first day, while the Baylor's Hannah Karg will head to the final round in second at 8-under 136.
