Women’s Tennis Tops Memphis on Senior Night, 4-3

NEW ORLEANS – After thunderstorms in the area delayed the match more than seven hours and forced competition indoors, the Tulane women's tennis team collected a thrilling 4-3 victory over Memphis on Wednesday evening at the Hilton Riverside Indoor Tennis Courts.
On four courts, the match began at 7:35 p.m. with singles play, as the Green Wave (13-8) got an early lift thanks to sophomore Lahari Yelamanchili's 6-2, 6-2 win on court three over Camila Soares. The Tigers (6-13) responded on court two with a straight-set win of their own however to tie up the score, 1-1.
Tulane would pull ahead with two more victories however, as sophomore Mackenzie Clark battled back from a lost first set, 6-2, to win the next two frames, 6-2 and 6-3.
Junior Adelaide Lavery battled her way to a three-set win of her own at the No. 4 spot in the lineup, 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-4, to put the Wave in front, 3-1, on the scoreboard.
Memphis countered in the two remaining singles matches, claiming a straight-set win on court five before winning in three frames on court six to knot the score at three-all with doubles remaining.
Tulane jumped out to a 4-1 lead on courts two and three respectively, before Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell closed out No. 3 by a 6-1 count. Lavery and Kristen Borland were close behind to clinch at No. 2 with a 6-2 victory to seal the 4-3 victory.
The Green Wave await seeding for the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship which will be held April 21-25 in at the USTA National Training Center in Lake Nona, Fla.
