Women's Tennis Faces Houston in AAC Championship Quarterfinal

NEW ORLEANS – Seeded fourth, the Tulane women's tennis team will face No. 5 seed Houston in the the quarterfinals of the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, April 23 at the USTA National Training Center in Lake Nona, Fla. First serve is set for 11 a.m. (CT).
With a win, the Green Wave (13-8) will face the winner of No. 1 seed UCF and either No. 8 USF or No. 9 Cincinnati in Saturday's semifinal at 9:30 or 10 a.m.
AAC CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Tulane makes its sixth all-time appearance in The American Championship and owns a 3-5 record in the tournament. The Green Wave are 3-1 all-time in first-round matchups, but 0-4 in the quarterfinals.
SCOUTING HOUSTON
The Cougars (14-7) enter Friday's matchup coming off consecutive losses to SMU and Rice, but own a 7-3 record in matches played away from their home courts this season. Houston won three of its five matches against league opponents during the spring, including Tulane, Cincinnati and Wichita State. In doubles, Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Phonexay Chitdara are ranked 69th nationally.
LAST TIME THEY MET - MARCH 19, 2021
Tulane had its eight-match home winning streak snapped in a 4-1 setback against the Cougars at the City Park Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Green Wave scored a straight-set singles win, thanks to Lahari Yelamanchili on court four, but Houston roared back with three straight singles victories to clinch.
THE DOUBLES POINT
The Green Wave are 12-3 this season when winning the doubles point and 1-5 when they do not. Tulane's lone win without the doubles point came in the 4-3 victory at Florida Gulf Coast on March 31.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane collected its fourth straight win with an important, 4-3 home win over Memphis on April 14 at the Hilton Riverside indoor courts.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own bag chairs for seating. All spectators will be asked to remain six feet away from the courts at all times, respect social distancing rules, avoid gathering and remain six feet away from others. All spectators are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while inside City Park.
