Apr 7, 2021 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team improved to 8-2 at home and produced its fifth shutout during the 2021 season with a 4-0 victory over in-state foe Nicholls State on Wednesday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (11-8) applied heavy early pressure on the Colonels (4-14) in doubles by jumping out to leads on all three courts. Mackenzie Clark and Mary Caroline Meredith cruised to a 6-1 win on court one just moments before Adelaide Lavery and Kristen Borland closed out their match on court two by the same score.
Leading 1-0 heading into singles, Tulane secured first-set victories on all six courts to further press Nicholls. Freshman Cora Barber was the first to finish, extending the advantage to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nikita Pinto on court five.
The Wave quickly put the match away when two more singles matches finished within one minute of one another, as Borland closed out Laura Lopez, 6-3, 6-0, on court four, before Meredith provided the clincher, 6-1, 6-4, over Simona Maksimovic at the No. 1 position.
Up next, Tulane hosts Memphis and celebrates Senior Day on Friday, April 9 against Memphis. A ceremony honoring Mary Caroline Meredith will take place approximately 15 minutes before the match begins at 2:30 p.m.
