Tulane Football Continues Its NFL Draft Tradition
May 3, 2021 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University football team added to its NFL Draft tradition this past weekend, as Cameron Sample and Patrick Johnson were selected by the Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles, respectively.
Sample was the first Green Wave player off the board, as the Bengals selected the former Tulane defensive lineman in the fourth round with the 111th overall pick Saturday afternoon. Sample’s selection at No. 111 in the NFL Draft is Tulane’s highest draft pick since Matt Forte’ went No. 44 in 2008. The only other higher picks this century were J.P. Losman in 2004 (No. 22), Patrick Ramsey in 2002 (No. 32) and JaJuan Dawson in 2000 (No. 79).
Three rounds later, the Eagles selected Johnson with the 234th overall pick in the seventh round.

With Sample and Johnson being selected this past weekend, Tulane has now produced back-to-back classes with multiple NFL Draft picks for the first time since the 1988 and 1989 seasons – a span of 32 years.
In addition, Tulane has now had players selected in the NFL Draft in five straight seasons – the most since 1987-1991.
With the selection of Sample and Johnson in the NFL Draft, Tulane has now had 146 players picked all-time.
