Positional Preview: Tight Ends
Aug 23, 2021 | Football
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane’s tight ends will play a key role in guiding the Green Wave offense this season. The eight-member group has used fall camp to improve not only as blockers, but as playmakers in the passing game.

THE UNIT
- Tulane’s tight end unit features six returners and two freshmen.
- Junior tight end Tyrick James emerged as one of the Green Wave’s top receivers in 2020, as he finished the year with over 200 yards receiving and caught three touchdowns.
- James’ three receiving touchdowns ranked third on the team.
- The Green Wave tight ends paved the way for the running backs to accumulate over 2,600 yards on the ground and over 4,700 yards of total offense.
- Redshirt-junior Will Wallace appeared in eight games during the 2020 season, hauling in one touchdown.
- Tulane also returns junior Keitha Jones Jr., redshirt-junior Connor Prouet, redshirt-sophomore Christian Daniels and freshman Reggie Brown.
- Two true freshmen joined the unit this season - Johnathan Kahn and Devean Deal.
- Deal was a consensus three-star prospect by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.com.
- Kahn makes the transition to tight end after playing on the offensive line in high school.
“Tyrick James and Will Wallace both guys who have a lot of experience are back and are both playing good football. Tyrick has become more of a consistent player I have been proud of him all camp; he’s an improved blocker and he’s making plays in the passing game. I look to these experienced guys that have been in the fire and understand what’s expected of them and they’re all getting better and better.”Tight End Coach Slade Nagle on the Unit
Tulane opens the 2021 season against Oklahoma, with kickoff scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4. The game will be aired nationally on ABC. The Green Wave return to 16 starters and 53 letterwinners.
