Tulane Sweeps Samford in the Four Points Tallahassee Seminole Volleyball Invitational Finale

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. โย The Tulane University volleyball team put on an efficient performance to close out the 2021 Four Points Tallahassee Seminole Volleyball Invitational on Friday with a 3-0 sweep of the Samford Bulldogsย ย 25-16, 25-22, 25-15.

Looking to bounce back after suffering defeat in both matches on Thursday, the Green Wave (4-2) hit .287 as a group with 37 kills in the three sets, while defensively limiting the Bulldogs (0-5) to just .134 hitting. Tulane also picked up eight total team blocks and 32 digs.

Six different players had three or more kills in the contest. Freshman Michelle Urquhart led the offense, as she hit .478 with 11 kills. Urquhart has led the Wave in kills in five of the Green Waves's six matches this season, accumulating a season total of 67. Her 67 kills rank second in the conference in the category behind Pre-season conference MVP.ย

Seniors Lexie Douglas and Kayla Dinkins also chipped in with seven kills apiece. Douglas also hit over .500 and totaled a team-best eight digs.ย

Freshman setter Chelsea Harvey had 23 assists, while the defensive specialists Jillian Dits and Sophia Ervanian combined for 13 digs for Tulane.

Tulane jumped out to a quick lead in set one. The Green Wave put four unanswered numbers on the board, held the lead the entire set and never allowing the Bulldogs within three. The Wave hit .276 with 11 kills, two aces and four total blocks in the frame.

The second set started similar to the first, as the Wave went up 5-1. The score was close until a 5-0 run and strung together a couple of kills to open up a 16-8 lead. Tulane claimed another 11 kills and four blocks to produce the 25-22 final.ย

In the final set, the Tulane offense was unstoppable. The set started with three straight kills and a service ace, as the Olive and Blue opened up a 5-1. The Green Wave would then go on to a 16โ11 lead and never looked back, as it secured a 25-15 win.ย

The Green Wave will be back in action on Friday morning, taking on the Warhawks of ULM at 10 a.m. at the Missouri State Tournament.
