
Tulane Posts Five Wins in Dual Meet with SMU

DALLAS – Tulane swimming and diving competed in a dual meet versus the SMU Mustangs this morning. Grabbing five first-place finishes in the 116-183 loss.
"It is always exciting to compete against conference teams despite not getting the ideal results," head coach Leah Stancil said. "We had some solids efforts from the entire team especially with the wins from Danielle, Christiana and Noa; also, Reese had some dual meet best times which is impressive. With just over 4 weeks until the conference, I am very happy with our fitness level and we will continue to improve on our technical skills. "
The 400-yard medley relay team kicked things off for Tulane finishing second. The team made up of Danielle Titus, Christiana Williams, Sam Krew and Iza Pelka finished with a time of 3:50.57.
Senior Noa Heron gave the Olive and Blue their first win of the day, taking the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:14.66. Heron would also take third in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.00.
Tulane would see the podium in the 200-yard freestyle with Lilly Byrne and Iza coming in second and third with times of 1:52.80 and 1:53.91. Byrne would also place second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.50.
Sophomore Danielle Titus would continue her dominance in the 100-yard (55.92) and 200-yard backstroke (2:02.17), taking both races.
Teammate Gianna Spremullo would finish in second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57. 35, third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03. 04 and third in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:28.89.
Christiana Williams would also find herself with a win today, taking the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04. 48. Williams would also place third with a time of 2:22.14 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Other podium finishing for the Green Wave includes Mya Drost-Parra would take third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.01. and Autumn Keats-O'Connor in the 10-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.25.
In diving Paige Mckenzie, Katie Lipsey and Gabby Hebert went third, fourth and fifth in the 3-meter with scores of 246.60, 237.55 and 234.40 respectively. In 1-meter, Mckenzie, Lipsey and Behrman when third, fourth and fifth with scores of 237.45, 229.00 and 220.15.
"I think the divers had a decent start to the semester, but we still have work to do before conference" diving coach John Sirmon said. "We're all hovering close to our season bests, but we need to get more consistent on certain parts of our diving. We have a week to put some polish on before we go to Houston and I'm excited to get back to practice."
Tulane returns to action next weekend as they head to Houston on Friday, Jan. 21 to take on the Cougars at 2 p.m.
