Tulane Men’s Tennis Drops Match to Louisville in the ITA Kickoff
Jan 31, 2022 | Men's Tennis
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Tulane University men's tennis team fell in its second match at the ITA Kickoff to Louisville 4-0 on Monday. With the loss the Green Wave drop to 2-2 on the season.
"We had another pretty good doubles point today with match points but did not convert and unfortunately a similar thing happened where we were not competitive enough on a couple courts and gave up a big lead," head coach Mark Booras said. "It was nice to see our guys battling on the other courts and putting themselves in a position to be successful."
The pairing of Billy Suarez and Rafael de Alba delivered the Green Wave's only win of the day again as they defeated Josh Howard-Tripp and Tim Chen in a tiebreaker 7-6. Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson nearly won the doubles point for Tulane as they went to a tiebreaker in their match as well before falling 7-6. The Cardinals picked up the first three wins in singles competition to win the match.
"It's a funny game with very small margins separating the winner and loser," Booras said. "If one or two points go the other way, this match could all of a sudden be in our favor. That's why we just need to keep on practicing with discipline and focus knowing that ability to stick to our game plan and execute our task at hand throughout the match is what will allow us to be successful."
Tulane will be back in New Orleans when it returns to action as it hosts LSU Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. CT.
