Green Wave Continues Competition at ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – Tulane University women's tennis picked up the competition at the ITA Southern Regional Championships on Friday with four doubles teams and seven singles players hitting the courts. Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili led the Wave in doubles advancing to the round of 16 while Adelaide Lavery moved on to the singles round of 32.
Lily Walther, Kristen Borland, Jiayun Zhu, Brooke Theis, Lavery, Russell, and Yelamanchili all took to the singles courts for their first matches of the tournament in the singles main draw round of 64. Lavery was the only singles player to secure a victory for the Green Wave defeating Olivia Elliott from Troy in two sets (6-4, 6-3) to advance to the round of 32.
Three of Tulane's four doubles pairs saw their first action of the weekend opening play in main draw doubles round of 64. Walther teamed up with Cora Barber to beat Alexis Lopez and Lindsay Song from Samford 8-6 and Lavery paired with Zhu to defeat Luna Jokanovic and Domingo Bernabeu from Northwestern State 8-1. The Green Wave doubles duo of Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili began play in the round of 32 and defeated Hagar Ramadan and Maria Guirguis from Troy 8-1 to move on to the round of 16.
Lavery will continue her run in the singles main draw on Saturday with a chance to advance to the round of 16. Meanwhile, in the doubles main draw Russell and Yelamanchili will compete to move into the quarterfinals.
