NEW ORLEANS — Tulane beach volleyball is set to kick off its 2022 season this weekend as the team opens action at home in the Green Wave Invitational.
The Olive and Blue will face Georgia State at 9:30 a.m. and Spring Hill College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the White Sands Volleyball Courts, before matching up against SEC opponent LSU at 9:30 a.m. and Nicholls at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
The Green Wave Invitational is the first of two home tournaments for Tulane this season, with the team also hosting the NOLA Classic on March 11-12. Tulane will also welcome Southern Miss for senior day on Apr. 23.
In head coach Eyal Zimet's third season in New Orleans, alongside an assistant coach, Jade Hayes, the team welcomes back eight returners and adds seven newcomers.
"We are so excited to let these girls go out and shine," Hayes said. "They've worked tremendously hard and We know they are eager to get after it as well! This team we have the privilege to coach is Gritty and ready to compete!"
Georgia State earned a 23-13 record last season on the sand, defeating Tulane most recently 4-1 in the New Orleans Invitational in 2021.
Going 18-9 in 2021 was SHC, falling to the Green Wave in a 0-5 decision in all three tournaments in which they met that season.
LSU went 27-9 in 2021 and is ranked No. 5 in the AVCA preseason poll. Tulane last met the Tigers on Mar. 14, 2021 and lost by a 4-1 decision.
This will be Tulane's first matchup against Nicholls, having all their previous matches canceled due to COVID.
