Tulane Men’s Tennis Drops to No. 37 Tulsa in AAC Quarterfinals
Apr 22, 2022 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – The season came to a close for the No. 74 Tulane University men's tennis team as it dropped to No. 37 Tulsa 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship Friday. The Green Wave put up a fight after falling behind early but was unable to string together a comeback bid against the Golden Hurricane.
With the loss, Tulane finished the year with a 7-15 record overall and a sixth-place finish in the regular season in the AAC. The Wave ended the season just shy of its fifth semifinal appearance in the AAC Championship.
Doubles action got off to a difficult start for the Green Wave as Tulane fell behind early on all three courts. After Tulsa picked up the first win of the day, the pairings of Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson along with Luc Hoeijmans and Rafael de Alba battled to pull within two points however the Golden Hurricane got the decisive point on court three to claim the doubles point.
Moving on the singles play, Tulane did not go down without a fight. De Alba earned the only first set win for the Wave 6-2 on court six. Facing a 3-0 deficit the Green Wave began to battle hard on courts two and three as Fynn Kuenkler and Luka Petrovic each forced a third set on their respective courts both winning the second set 7-5. Unfortunately, the momentum did not swing enough in the Wave's direction as Tulsa clinched the match with a win on court four.
No. 37 Tulsa (15-10) defeated No. 74 Tulane (7-15), 4-0
