Apr 29, 2022 | Women's Beach Volleyball
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Tulane University beach volleyball team went 2-2 in the CCSA Conference tournament to finish off their 2022 season at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Ala
This was Tulane's second straight season with 20-plus victories, a triumph under third-year head coach Eyal Zimet.
Tulane began the tournament by winning a three-set battle against South Carolina that came down to Court 5 where Haley Gibson and Savka Popovic clinched a win for the Green Wave.
Samantha Mehlman and Sara Hall grabbed the first point of the match on court two. They set the tone for another win on court one, thanks to top-flight Kendall Peters and Maddie Speicher.
The three pairs guided the Wave to a 3-2 victory over the Gamecocks. The victory marked the first time since April of 2017 that the Green Wave beat South Carolina.
The Green Wave suffered a loss in their second match of the day to top-seeded TCU losing 0-5.
Tulane faced Missouri State for the second time this season on Friday morning in an elimination match where they took a 4-1 match victory.
Peters and Speicher got the first point for the Wave with an effortless 21-10, 21-8 fashion.
Ashton Mares and Lara Torruella got the second team point for the Green Wave, winning 21-8, 21-19. They were followed by Josie Cole and Samantha Green on court four who secured the Tulane win with the third team point.
Gibson and Popovic added the fourth team point with a 21-11, 23-21 win on court five.
In the afternoon Tulane faced LSU for a spot in the championship Saturday bracket, however, they would fall 0-5.
The first and third flights would put up the best fight, taking the Tigers to three sets, but it wouldn't be enough ending the season.
