
Tulane Places Two on AAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year List

NEW ORLEANS – Two Tulane University athletes were selected as 2022 American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year on Wednesday, the league announced.
Tulane senior Iza Pelka will represent women's swimming and diving in 2022. Pelka dominated at the AAC Championships, grabbing a career-best in both the 200 freestyle (1:48.03), good for third place and in the 400-medley relay (3:40.15). She also grabbed career bests in the 100 freestyle (51.03) and the 500 freestyle (4:50.63), earning AAC all-conference honors. Pelka was also a member of the conference champion 800 freestyle relay in 2022.
Senior Crystal Singh (Tulane Bowling) was named the recipient for the Women's At-Large spot. Singh recorded a 192.1 pin average in 445 baker matches and posted a 183.7 pin average in 332 traditional matches. She totaled a 188.5 pin average in 777 total matches. Singh had a season-high 207.0 average in traditional matches at the Dezy Strong Invitational (Oct. 29-31). The senior then bowled a season-high 74 frames at the PVAM Invitational (Jan. 28-30). In 2021-22, she recorded 342 strikes in 788 attempts, averaging a 43.4 strike percentage. She also picked up 287 spares in 446 tries (64.3 percent). Her other awards include being selected to the 2022 Southland Bowling League Academic Honor Roll and helping the team to its first USBC postseason appearance.
Tulane was one of six schools in the conference to have multiple representatives.
