
Four Ready to Compete in ICSA Singlehanded National Championships

NEW ORLEANS – Four members of the Tulane University sailing team will take to the waters of Lake Pontchartrain this weekend to represent the Green Wave in the 2023 ICSA Singlehanded Championships. The championships will be hosted by Tulane on Saturday and Sunday, November 11-12.

The Green Wave will have two sailors in the field of 18 for both the open and the women's singlehanded championships. Competitors in the open championship will race for the Glen S. Foster Trophy while competitors in the women's championship will race for the Janet Lutz Trophy.

In the open championship, freshman Hamilton Barclay earned the automatic conference qualification by winning the SEISA Open Singlehanded Championship earlier this fall. Senior Thad Lettsome will race in the singlehanded championship for Tulane for the fourth consecutive year after earning an at-large selection to the regatta.

Lettsome finished eighth in the singlehanded championship last fall. He posted an 11th-place finish in 2021 and landed seventh in 2020.

Tulane will be represented by two freshmen in the women's singlehanded championship. Ava Anderson won the SEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship in September to earn the automatic conference qualifier for the national championship. She will be joined by Oakley Cunningham who was named as an at-large selection.

Both championships will feature 14 total races across the two-day regatta. Racing will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday on Lake Pontchartrain.
