
Football’s Jared Small Named LSWA Defensive Player of the Week

Baton Rouge - Â Tulane's football team saw Jared Small named as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced recently.
Small totaled eight tackles to lead the Tulane defense in the 24-8 victory over Florida Atlantic. Of Small's eight tackles five were solo stops. The Tulane defensive limited FAU to just 14 first downs, 32 yards rushing and 234 yards for the game.
On the year, Tulane has been honored by the LSWA a total of 10 times. Michael Pratt has been named the LSWA's Offensive Player of the Week three times (9/4, 10/23 & 10/30). Jesus Machado was named the LSWA Defensive Player of the Week (9/25). Devean Deal was named the Defensive Player of the Week (10/2). Kam Pedescleaux was named the Defensive Player of the Week (10/16). Will Karoll was named the Special Teams Player of the Week (10/16), Valentino Ambrosio was named the Special Teams Player of the Week (10/30) while Shedro Louis took home the Special Teams Player of the Week honor last week (11/14).
Tulane's defense leads the conference and is ranked second nationally in rushing yards allowed per game at 77.7. The squad also ranks third in the conference and 23rd in the country in sacks at 2.73 per game. The program ranks fourth in AAC in turnovers gained at 17. Individually, Lance Robinson leads the conference and is placed 11th in the country with his four interceptions. Darius Hodges and Patrick Jenkins are ranked fourth and ninth in the conference in sacks, respectfully. Valentino Ambrosio leads the conference with his 1.45 field goals per game. He also ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage (76.2). Lawrence Keys III leads the AAC in yards per catch at 18.15. Keys is also 11th in the league with his seven touchdowns scored. Jha'Quan Jackson is fifth in the conference in yards per reception at 17.54. Chris Brazzell II is placed 10th in the league in yards per catch (16.03). Makhi Hughes leads the conference in rushing with 1,080 yards. He is seventh in the league with six rushing touchdowns. Michael Pratt is third in the league in passing yards a completion at 13.18. Shedro Louis leads the league and ranks third in the country with his kick return touchdown.
This week, the No. 24 CFP/ No. 18 AP / No. 18 Coaches poll Tulane football team (10-1, 7-0 AAC) hosts UTSA on Friday, Nov. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at Yulman Stadium. The game will also be shown live on ABC.
