
The Green Wave Wraps Up the 2023 Season

NEW ORLEANS- The Tulane volleyball team (6-25) completed their season with a 3-0 loss to FAU (18-11).
The Green Wave's offensive effort was led by outside hitter Ilayda Demirtas. The redshirt sophomore finished the match with 13 kills and an impressive .364 hitting percentage. Following closely behind was sophomore Katherine Crosley. Crosley added nine kills for the Green Wave.
The Tulane defense finished with nine total blocks in the match. Leading the way for the Green Wave was graduate middle blocker Orsula Staka. She finished the match with six assisted blocks.
After the score of the first set was 3-3, the Owls hit two back to back points to take the lead. FAU kept their lead until a successful comeback attempt from the Green Wave tied the match at 14-14. Tulane struck first and traded the lead with FAU until the score was 21-21. The Green Wave was able to notch one more point but the Owls took the first set, 25-22.
The second set remained a back and forth fight consisting of six ties until the score was 18-18. The Owls were able to take the lead scoring three unanswered points. After a Tulane timeout, the Green Wave was able to come back within one but the Owls kept their momentum and took the set 25-21.
In the third and final set of the match, FAU was able to notch the first five scores. The Green Wave trailed but kept fighting for a comeback and tied the score 10-10. Tulane scored the next three points and continued to lead until FAU was able to tie the score back at 22-22. The Green Wave had answers for all of the Owls set point attempts but were not able to play catch up at the end and dropped the final set 27-25.
This match concluded the 2023 season for the Tulane volleyball team. The Green Wave will be back in action next fall.
