Strong Singles Effort Carries Jaguars Past Green Wave

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Visiting South Alabama surrendered the doubles point to host Tulane, but rebounded to capture four singles victories to escape with a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon in women's tennis action.

With the triumph, the Jaguars improved to 6-0 this season, while the Green Wave dropped to 3-3.

Tulane started the day strong, winning doubles via a 6-1 score at No. 2 by Adelaide Lavery and Jiayun Zhu and the clinching 7-5 victory by Kristen Borland and Cora Barber at No. 3.

Borland managed a 7-5, 6-4 singles victory at No. 3 and Lahari Yelamanchili turned in a superb effort at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win.

The Jaguars got singles wins at No. 2, 4 and 5, tying the match score at 3-apiece with the No. 6 contest between Tulane's Brooke Theis and USA's Chems Doha Zeghlouli still in progress. Zeghlouli won the first set 6-4, with Theis returning the favor in the second. Zeghlouli controlled the action in the third set, however, and got the 6-2 win to give the Jaguars the one-point margin.

The Green Wave is off until Saturday, when the team travels to Alabama for a noon match.
