Heintzelman and Mehlman Named AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Beach Volleyball senior Samantha Mehlman and sophomore Emily Heintzelman were selected as the AVCA/CBVB National Pair of the Week as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

Mehlman and Heintzelman went undefeated in four matches at the Carolina Challenge over the weekend hosted by South Carolina. The perfect weekend improved the pair to 9-2 this season. The duo helped the Green Wave earn a pair of upset victories over No. 12 Stetson and No. 19 South Carolina as well as wins over UNC Wilmington and Stephen F. Austin. The wins helped run Tulane's winning streak to 10 consecutive duals this season.

During the 4-0 weekend for the Wave, Mehlman and Heintzelman led the way recording wins in each of the four matches. On the first day, the two posted a 21-13, 21-12 victory at No. 3 to clinch the upset win for Tulane over No. 12 Stetson. In the final dual of the weekend the match was tied 2-2 against No. 19 South Carolina before the pair delivered another victory in straight sets to secure the second win over a ranked team on the weekend.

Tulane is 10-1 on the season and prepares to face Florida State, Loyola Marymount, UAB, Mercer, and Georgia State for duals at the March to May in Gulf Shores, Alabama, this weekend, March 17-19.
