NEW ORLEANS -Â Tulane Athletics has released its first report updating the progress of the natatorium at Reily Student Recreation Center on Tulane's campus.Â
Â
The facility will be open and ready for use by the early fall of 2023. The scope of the project includes:
Â
-Dedicated locker rooms for the Green Wave
-A new pool and new pool deck
-Diving platforms
-HVAC
-Movable bulkheads
-Water filtration system
-New steps and ledgesÂ
-A Myrtha liner system, consisting of stainless-steel panels laminated with waterproof PVC coating
-The integration of Tulane-branding throughout
Â
"I so appreciate the commitment our administration has made to upgrade Reily," said Tulane head coach Amanda Caldwell. "The addition of the new air and water filtration system was our highest priority. AÂ big factor in our sport is air quality. Anyone who has competed in a pool with poor air quality knows that hardship.
Â
"This project is transformational to our group of elite student-athletes who can train and perform in their own first-class facility."Â
Â
Student-athletes will benefit from the state-of-the art pool system, with new gutters, adding seven and one-half inches of pool depth at the deep end. Flexibility to train at 25 meters and 25 yards, in addition to long course training, is made possible by the installation of a new, moveable fiberglass Stark bulkhead. New starting platforms, as well as 1m and 3m diving platforms, ADA chair lifts and lifeguard stands are also included in the project. Mechanical and electrical systems are also being significantly upgraded, including new air returns and humidity controls, and new lighting, as well as all-new pool piping, equipment, and other system upgrades.Â
Â
"We aspire to provide our student-athletes with facilities that enhance their competitive experiences," said Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair Troy Dannen. "The complete renovation and modernization of the Reily Center natatorium will afford them the opportunity to participate in a national caliber venue."
Â
The renovated locker room will be upgraded with a private entrance for student-athletes. The renovation also includes the addition of private showers, a restroom area, state of the art lockers with fans to dry wet equipment after use.Â
