
Bradley Makuvire Breaks School 5000m Record On First Day of the Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, NC – Bradley Makuvire's school-record 5000m run spotlighted the action for the Tulane outdoor track and field program on the first day of the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Complex on Thursday.
Makuvire became the first Tulane runner to ever finish at lower than 14:00 in running a school record 13:57.67. He broke the previous school mark set by Amos Kipyegon from 1998. Makuvire placed 20th overall in this year's 5000m race. His teammate Aaron Gilliam finished 96th with a 14:27.84. Gilliam's run was the fifth-best in school history.
Maren Butler had her second top-10 finish, 7th, in the shot put this season with her personal-best throw of 14.89m. Her toss broke her previous mark of 14.57m from 2021 and is currently third-best in the Tulane record book.
Kara Schiek earned 14th in the women's javelin with a toss of 41.55m. Norah Bice finished 27th with a throw of 35.93m.
Jon Lloyd took 36th in the men's javelin with his throw of 50.49m. Matthew Remondet placed 40th with a 46.54m.
Arturs Lapins ranked 37th in the 3000m steeplechase in running a 9:13.19
Next the program continues competing in the 2023 Raleigh Relays starting at 8:45 a.m. with the women's discus on Friday.
