Wave Rolls to 2-0 Day in Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tulane University Beach Volleyball cruised to a 2-0 start at the Blazer Beach Bash on Saturday to improve to 18-8 on the season. The 17^th-ranked Green Wave picked up wins over Central Arkansas 5-0 and Southern Miss 3-2.

The Wave swept through the Central Arkansas Bears 5-0 to begin the weekend. Tulane mixed up its pairing for its first dual of the tournament including the duo of Emily Heintzelman and Savka Popovic that put the Green Wave on the board with a two-set victory on court four. Sara Hall teamed up with Samantha Mehlman on court two to put the Wave up 2-0 by winning in straight sets. The dual against the Bears was clinched on court five on a two-set victory by Lara Torruella and Molly Trodd. Abby Jackson and Ashton Mares won in three sets in position three to add another point before Mollie Ebertin and Maddie Speicher completed the sweep with a two-set win on court one.

In its second dual of the day Tulane battled the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to earn a 3-2 victory. Heintzelman and Popovic once again gave the Wave the early advantage by winning in straight sets on court two. The lead grew to 2-0 for Tulane after Hall and Mehlman fought for a three-set win from position two. The duo of Jackson and Mares teamed up on court three again to earn a two-set win and secure the dual for the Green Wave. Southern Miss claimed the final two points of the match to make the final score 3-2 in favor of Tulane.

Up next, the Green Wave face the Blazer Beach Bash hosts, the UAB Blazers, on Sunday. The match between Tulane and UAB is scheduled to start at noon.
