
Tulane Finishes Undefeated at Blazer Beach Bash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tulane University Beach Volleyball earned two more victories Sunday at the Blazer Beach Bash on Sunday to finish 4-0 on the weekend and improve to 20-8 on the season. The 17th-ranked Green Wave started with another 5-0 win over Central Arkansas 5-0 and before coming from behind to defeat UAB 3-2.

In a rematch from Saturday the Wave faced Central Arkansas for the second time this weekend to start Sunday. Tulane repeated its performance against the Bears with a 5-0 sweep. The pairing of Emily Heintzelman and Savka Popovic delivered the first point for the Green Wave with a two-set victory on court four. Sara Hall and Samantha Mehlman followed on court two to put the Wave up 2-0 by winning in straight sets. Tulane secured the dual against UCA on court three with a two-set victory by Abby Jackson and Ashton Mares. The duos of Lara Torruella with Molly Trodd on court five and Mollie Ebertin with Maddie Speicher on court one each won in straight sets to complete the sweep over the Bears for Tulane.

In the second match of the day Tulane had to come from behind to pick up the 3-2 victory over the UAB Blazers. After Heintzelman and Popovic picked up the first point from position four again for the Wave, UAB earned the next two points on courts one and two to take the lead. Jackson and Mares battled in position three after UAB forced a third set to claim another point for Tulane by taking the third set 16-14 and even the score at 2-2. The dual came down to court five where Torruella and Trodd outlasted the Blazers in a marathon second set to win 30-28 and clinch the match for the Green Wave 3-2.

Up next, the Green Wave will wrap up the regular season by hosting Southern Miss for a doubleheader in the Nola Classic on April 22.
