Tulane Sweeps Senior Day Doubleheader

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Beach Volleyball swept past Southern Miss in a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday to close the regular season with 22-8 record. The 17th-ranked Green Wave started racked up back-to-back 4-1 victories over the Golden Eagles to end the season on a six-match win streak.

In the first dual of the day the Wave jumped out to the early advantage behind a two-set victory at flight four by the senior duo of Abby Jackson and Ashton Mares. Tulane quickly pushed its lead to 2-0 after Lara Torruella and Savka Popovic won in straight sets at flight five. Another senior pairing for the Green Wave clinched the match at flight one winning in two sets. Emily Heintzelman and Samantha Mehlman added one more win for Tulane at flight three in straight set as the Wave took the first dual by a final score of 4-1.

As the teams hit the sand for the second dual of the doubleheader it was Jackson and Mares again that put Tulane in front from flight four with a win in straight sets. Torruella and Popovic also won in straight sets again to make it 2-0 before Heintzelman and Mehlman secured the victory this time with a two-set win. The Green Wave got one more point from Ebertin and Peters at flight one with another win in straight sets to make it back-to-back 4-1 victories for Tulane.

Up next, the Green Wave will head to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship. As the three seed in the tournament, Tulane will face the six seed, Jacksonville State, Thursday at 9:30 a.m. CT. The tournament will be hosted at Fort Lauderdale Beach Park from April 27-29.
