
Tulane Goes 1-1 to Finish Mustang Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Tulane University Beach Volleyball split its final two dual matches of the Mustang Invitational on Sunday to move to 15-7 on the season. The Green Wave dropped its first match of the day against ninth-ranked Cal, 3-2, before concluding the weekend with a 4-1 victory over UC Davis.
The 20th-ranked Green Wave fell behind early against the Bears, who took the first two points of the dual, winning on courts five and two. The Wave responded to put its first point on the board behind a two-set win from position four by Ashton Mares and Abby Jackson. Unfortunately, Cal managed to secure the match with the next decision on court three going to the Bears. Mollie Ebertin and Kendall Peters added one more point for Tulane in a three-set victory on court one to make the final score 3-2 in favor of Cal.
In final match of the weekend, Tulane jumped out to the early advantage and did not look back against UC Davis. Mares and Jackson gave the Wave the lead with back-to-back 21-16 wins to claim the point from position four. The Green Wave quickly made it 2-0 as Emily Heintzelman and Samantha Mehlman teamed up to win in straight sets on court three. The match was clinched for Tulane by the duo of Lara Torruella and Savka Popovic in position five winning in straight sets. Ebertin and Peters added one more point for good measure with a two-set win on court one as Tulane finished with a 4-1 victory over the Aggies.
Up next, the Green Wave will head up the California coast to play in the Stanford Invitational. Tulane will square off against Saint Mary's and Stanford on Wednesday.
