
Tulane Splits Duals at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – Tulane University Beach Volleyball went 1-1 in midweek dual action at the Stanford Invitational on Wednesday to move to 16-8 on the season. The Green Wave defeated Saint Mary's 4-1 in its first match of the day before dropping its second dual 1-4 to No. 10 Stanford.

The 17th-ranked Wave claimed the early advantage against the Saint Mary's Gaels as Abby Jackson and Ashton Mares picked up the first point of the match winning in straight sets in position four. After Saint Mary's evened the score 1-1, Mollie Ebertin and Kendall Peters put Tulane back in front with a two-set victory on court one. The match was officially clinched for the Green Wave by Samantha Mehlman and Emily Heintzelman who won in straight sets in position three. Lara Torruella and Savka Popovic teamed up on court five to add one more point to the board with a two-set win to make it a 4-1 victory for the Wave.

Tulane squared off with the 10th-ranked Stanford Cardinal for a ranked dual in its second match of the day. This match marked the seventh ranked opponent the Green Wave has faced this season. Stanford claimed the match by winning on courts two, four, and one. Torruella and Popovic put Tulane on the board winning in straight sets in position five, but the Cardinal got the final point with a victory on court three for a final score of 4-1.

Up next, the Green Wave will compete in the Blazer Beach Bash hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, April 15-16. Tulane will face Central Arkansas and Southern Miss on April 15 and UAB on April 16.
